"Red light therapy is a pretty big thing now. There are hundreds of different devices. The best hypothesis we have is that the cellular antenna for red light seems to be mitochondria — something in the mitochondria where the electrons flow, called cytochrome C oxidase. The idea is that red light can penetrate tissue, go through your hair and skull and into your brain, and change metabolism."

"There was a lot of hype about NAD. There was a lot of hype about coenzyme Q, CoQ10. There was a lot of hype about all sorts of things."

"NAD+ is probably the best supported intervention to reduce inflammation. It's an electron carrier — it takes electrons from food and gives them to the electron transport chain so the mitochondria can flow those electrons with low resistance. It seems like it helps some people and makes people feel more energetic."

"I don't really know how methylene blue does everything it's supposed to be doing. Biologically, methylene blue seems to be able to give electrons to the mitochondria, so maybe there's something there that methylene blue can kind of relieve energy resistance in the mitochondria."

"I think the GLP-1 drugs are so powerful because they address the problem where it starts. Like how much food are you putting into the system?"

"Urolithin A is a new compound that seems to stimulate the degradation of bad mitochondria. It accelerates the degradation of the bad mitochondria — the mitophagy — so that the cell has to make more of the good ones. The science is fairly compelling, but I trust the wisdom of my body and my mitochondria more than I trust the pharma company trying to make and sell this."
